Make money on PS3 and Wii
Looking to make some money with your newly purchased Sony Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii?
The market dynamics of supply and demand are readily apparent this week with the release of under half a million units by Sony of their latest console, the Playstation 3, to rabid demand from gaming fanatic and entrepreneurial consumers.
Might there be a better way to utilise your new console? Instead of selling it, whereby you end up with some profit but no new shiny console, how about using the console itself to help make you some money?
How about trading on your console?
eBay mania
With such limited supply and huge demand, the most popular way to go about making some money is to auction off your newly acquired piece of gaming hardware. In the US, people are regularly making a 100% profit on their purchase. A 60Gb Playstation 3 system (the high-end version) retails for $600, and can easily fetch $1200 on an auction site such as eBay.
In Japan, there were numerous reports of Japanese business paying Chinese homless people to queue and purchase a PS3 that could then be auctioned off for a handsome profit.
While Nintendo had far larger supply of their new Wii console in stock when it went on sale last Sunday, at a more reasonable retail price of $250, you would still need to stump up close to $400 to be able to get one off eBay today.
Trade on your console
There is another way. What if there was a way to keep your new, high tech console and you could use it to make some money for you?
Both the PS3 and Wii will support web browsing. You will be able to do all your regular web surfing right on your living room couch. Both consoles use a customised version of the Opera web browser. It all just now depends what level of web standards the consoles will support. At this time it looks like the Wii will also support AJAX and Flash enabled content, but no mention of Java yet. The PS3 browser will most likely have similar functionality.
Being able to trade through a web browser is not exactly the sort of thing that most people are looking for, so the real excitement comes in being able to run a bona fide operating system on your PS3!
There are already reports that it is possible to run Fedora Linux on the PS3.
This means that you can do anything on your PS3 that you are able to do with Linux running on a regular PC. As a trader, this means that any broker that supports Linux is good to go!
In the realm of forex, one of the main brokers that has a trading platform that runs on Linux is Oanda. Any other Java based trading platform should work fine too.
Maybe then you’ll be able to refill the hole in your wallet that occurred when you bought the PS3.
