Third place

The FXstreet.com Trader of the Year 2007 contest is now over. It ran from June 1st to September 28th.

I participated in the contest and ended up coming in third. I was pretty surprised at how few people made it to the finishing post. Out of over 50 people who originally signed up to take part in the contest, there are only final tallies for eight. Out of those final eight only three managed to finish with a positive return.

If nothing else it shows just how hard trading is.

While taking part in the contest I didn’t let it influence my trading in any way (or least I tried my best for that to be the case). Since a competition such as this only lasts for a finite amount of time, it can sometimes be tempting to just go for one big trade. The shorter the timeframe of the competition the greater this temptation becomes. I didn’t want to fall prey to doing something stupid just because I was taking part in a contest, so I tried to keep it out of my mind as much as possible. I often even forgot to do the weekly update on time as required by the competition rules.

Now I’m just waiting to find out what I’ve won…
