April 2008 Review
Before I get to tackle the various trading thoughts that are currently percolating in my head (which, as a sort of quick preview, involves chocolate, bunnies and ice cream) I thought I’d better go back and re-visit the last few months and comment on my trading activity.
Before my extended hiatus I had one of those ‘A-ha!’ moments. As April wore on my account balance was going in the wrong direction, too far, too fast. The revelation dealt with the dopamine high that I was seeking from each and every trade and this insight occurred on April 18th.
I closed out 23 trades trades up until that point, 10 of which were winners; the remaining 13 were losers, some of them rather large. I was chasing my tail and paid the price for it. At this stage I was down 42.11% for the month.
I took a break and decided that I needed to get back to basics. One step in this process was signing up with Jacko to regain some focus on trading one direction on one currency.
With this renewed focus in place there was one final trade put on before the month was out. Of course, it had to turn out to be a loser too! My money management on this one trade was much tighter and I ended the month down 43.08%.
Not a great month on the money front by any stretch of the imagination, but a key one on my development as a trader I feel.

Jacko is the screen name for Wayne Jackson, a trader who posted his trading approach on Forex Factory and who now does some mentoring.
I’ll probably do an in-depth post soon on how well I adhere to his trading rules, but you can get all the information on his style from his Forex Factory forum thread. Everything you need to know is covered in the first dozen or so posts.

thanks for that.
so you are moving on from trading using Dirk’s methods? or are you mixing a bit of Dirk’s stuff with Jacko’s stuff?

It’s pretty much a melding of the two, although there are a lot of similarities between them.
