October 2009 Review

2 November 2009 (16:35) | Journal | By: Colin McGinley

I had great intentions of doing a good bit of posting last month. There was even a decent amount of market action and trading news to comment on. Work and family commitments conspired against me. What little free time I had left was spent unwinding playing IL2 Sturmovik: Birds Of Prey.

My actual trading was not impeded and I had nine trades closed out during October. Five winners and four losses. Not a great ratio but the results make for much better viewing.

My (demo) account equity grew by 12.52%.

This is definitely a monthly return that I’m happy with. My goal is 10%, so having gotten past that mark was gratifying.

Since I was unable to review these trades on a day by day (or even week by week) basis, here’s the blotter on how they unfolded:

Entry Date      Exit Date   Market         Direction   Entry          Exit          Pips
  30 Sept 1 Oct EUR/USD Short 1.4647 1.4547 100
  2 Oct 2 Oct EUR/USD Short 1.4547 1.4647 (100)
  2 Oct 6 Oct EUR/USD Short 1.4622 1.4722 (100)
  2 Oct 5 Oct EUR/USD Short 1.4597 1.4697 (100)
  6 Oct 14 Oct EUR/USD Long 1.4747 1.4897 150
  6 Oct 14 Oct EUR/USD Long 1.4697 1.4897 200
  19 Oct 20 Oct EUR/USD Short 1.4954 1.4904 50
  26 Oct 26 Oct EUR/USD Long 1.4972 1.4872 (100)
  27 Oct 28 Oct EUR/USD Short 1.4872 1.4722 150

So when all was said and done I had accumulated 250 pips for the month. Here’s what the trades looked like on my charts. Oanda only tracks historical trades for about the last two weeks, so I have to show two charts to make sure that all trades for the month are displayed.
